We care about the origins of our meat! Our beef is all from North Yorkshire, particularly Ryedale. Where possible we use a Hereford Cross– an old English breed noted for its tenderness and flavour– particularly as it is raised on the rich pastures of the Yorkshire Dales. Our Pork is all free range– known as 'fresh air' pigs they are an award winning cross of a Hampshire and Landrace pig. They are traditionally fed, and reared outdoors in Stillington, near York, using best husbandry and practices to achieve a happy well flavoured pig! Our Lamb is mainly from John Worsley of Denby Dale. He and his wife have a flock of Texel cross sheep which are a good meat producer that originates from the Netherlands. This breed is noted for their good muscle tone and flavour.
Some dishes contain nuts and nut derivatives. Please enquire if you have any allergies. To the best of our knowledge, none of our dishes contain any GM products.

About our Evening menu-
Of our 4 Chefs at the Old Lodge. 2 are fully qualified, and 2 are trainees. Our head Chef, Sarah, decided it would be fun to give all our Chefs an opportunity to put their own dishes on the menu. Our two qualified Chefs, Sarah and Mark, have each designed 2 starters and 2 main courses, and our trainees have designed one each. Each month we see whose dishes have been most popular with customers. May’s most popular starter was the Deep fried Brie Wedges, designed by Sarah, and the most popular main course was the Lamb Shank, also designed by Sarah! So~ who will be the winner for June?

Hot Cous Cous Timbale with Feta Cheese, Olives and Sun Dried Tomatoes on a Tomato Vinaigrette £4.75
A stunning combination of beautifully balanced flavours makes this dish a great summer starter. It is wonderfully enhanced by the vinegary fresh tomato dressing.

The tomatoes are roasted with a little sugar to enhance the natural sweetness. This, & the sharpness of the balsamic dressing is amazing with the warmly melting Goat’s cheese.

Oregano, Basil & Garlic combine with fresh tomato sauce to lend this dish a romantic rustic authenticity. Lit candles, two large glasses of red and you’ll swear you’re in Italy!
Halibut with Anchovy Butter and a Two Pepper Sauce, £15.95
It is said that we taste first with our eyes– well then– this dish is certainly delicious! The delicate, silky Halibut is gently placed on a bed of pretty Red and Yellow Pepper sauces. The natural piquancy of the sauces goes really well with the delicate fish, which is finished with a little anchovy butter. A subtle and delicious combination of flavours.
Venison Fillet with Sauté Potatoes and a Juniper Berry infused Red Wine Sauce, £16.95
The Juniper berries pack an initial scenty punch, then the savoury meat comes in, followed by the richness of the Red Wine Sauce. Buttery sautéed potatoes complete this tasty dish. If you’re new to Venison it’s tender, looks similar to a fillet steak, and we don’t serve it gamey or strong. Please say how you would like us to cook your meat for you.
Free Range Chicken in a Creamy White Wine and Tarragon Sauce, with a Spring Onion and Bacon Potato Cake £14.95
The faintly anise flavour of the fresh Tarragon tastes fantastic with the Chicken, and added richness is brought to the dish from the flavourful potato cake.
